Role Overview
The Safety Head leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organization’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) strategy. This role ensures total compliance with statutory regulations, minimizes workplace hazards, drives a zero-accident safety culture, and oversees emergency response and risk management systems across all sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy & Policy Development: Formulate, update, and enforce company-wide safety policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and environmental guidelines in line with local and international legal standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO, local factory acts).
- Risk Management & Audits: Lead regular safety audits, facility inspections, and comprehensive risk assessments (HIRA/JSA) to identify hazards and implement preventive controls.
- Incident Investigation: Oversee root-cause analyses for all workplace accidents, injuries, and near-misses, and deploy corrective and preventive action plans (CAPA).
- Training & Culture: Design and execute safety induction programs, drill simulations, and specialized training modules to build a strong safety-first culture among workers and contractors.
- Regulatory Compliance & Reporting: Maintain all statutory health and safety records, liaise with government inspectors, and submit periodic safety metrics and compliance reports to executive leadership.
- Emergency Preparedness: Lead the emergency response team (ERT), manage crisis communication protocols, and ensure first-aid and fire-safety infrastructure remain functional.
Required Qualifications & Education
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in safety management within high-risk sectors such as construction, manufacturing, oil & gas, or heavy industry.
- Certifications: Recognized credentials such as NEBOSH (Diploma/IGC), IOSH, CSP (Certified Safety Professional), or local statutory safety officer qualifications.
- Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of OSHA, EPA, ISO 45001 / 14001 standards, root-cause analysis tools, and emergency planning.
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, crisis decision-making, cross-functional communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
