Job Description:
- Role: GM Purchase
- Industry: Iron & Steel / Manufacturing
- Experience Required: 15-25+ years (preferred in steel manufacturing)
- Reporting To: Director / CEO / Plant Head
- Location: Typically at the Manufacturing Plant site
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Sourcing: Develop procurement strategies for raw materials (coal, iron ore, scrap) and capital items (machinery, spares) to ensure continuous supply.
- Vendor Development: Identify, evaluate, and maintain relationships with reliable suppliers, including e-auction participation.
- Negotiation & Contracting: Negotiate favorable rates, payment terms, and long-term supply agreements (AMC, MoUs).
- Cost Optimization: Drive cost-reduction initiatives to achieve low procurement costs while maintaining quality, including tracking market trends like LME (London Metal Exchange).
- Inventory Management: Oversee inventory levels to optimize working capital, preventing both stockouts and excess inventory.
- Logistics Management: Coordinate inward logistics, rake movement, and transportation for materials to the plant.
- Compliance: Ensure procurement processes adhere to safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policy.
- Leadership: Lead and mentor the commercial and procurement team, setting performance goals (KPIs).
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Metallurgy) or Business Management (MBA) preferred.
- Industry Experience: 15+ years of experience, with at least 5 years in a senior procurement role within an integrated steel plant, induction furnace, or rolling mill.
- Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of steelmaking consumables (refractories, ferroalloys) and logistics.
- Tools: ERP proficiency (SAP, Oracle).
- Competencies: Strong negotiation, analytical ability, and strategic thinking.
