A Pulpit Operator in a Rolling Mill controls steel shaping from a central control room (pulpit), operating and monitoring furnace, cutting, and rolling equipment via HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces) to process metal according to production orders, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency by adjusting parameters, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating with other teams, essentially acting as the nerve center for the mill's automated processes.Key Responsibilities:
- Equipment Operation: Set up, operate, and monitor furnaces, shears, and CNC machines to heat, harden, temper, and shape metal products.
- Process Control: Adjust machine settings (temperature, pressure, flow) for different production stages, ensuring adherence to specifications.
- Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Watch HMIs, cameras, and alarms to detect abnormalities, diagnose problems, and implement immediate corrective actions or notify supervisors.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure rolled products meet required dimensions, surface quality, and mechanical properties, making adjustments as needed.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict safety protocols, check safety features, and report hazards, aiming for zero accidents.
- Coordination: Communicate with furnace, maintenance, and quality control teams for smooth workflow.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate production logs and reports.
Essential Skills:- Strong technical understanding of rolling mill processes.
- Ability to read production schedules and work orders.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills for real-time issues.
- Attention to detail for monitoring parameters and quality.
- Good communication skills for coordinating with teams.
Typical Environment:- Operates from a central control room (pulpit) overlooking the production floor.
- Requires experience with steel processing equipment and adherence to strict safety regulations.
