Job Description:
A Turner, also known as a Lathe Operator or Machinist, is a skilled trade professional who operates lathe machines to shape, cut, and finish materials like metal, wood, or plastic into specific components and parts, according to technical drawings and specifications. Key responsibilities include interpreting blueprints, setting up and calibrating machinery, selecting appropriate cutting tools, monitoring the machining process for precision, and performing routine maintenance on the equipment.
Key Responsibilities

Machine Operation:Operate manual and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) lathe machines to produce high-precision components.

Machine Setup:Calibrate and set up machines, including arranging gears and setting speeds and feeds, to ensure proper preparation for each job.

Quality Control:Use measuring instruments like calipers and micrometers to check the accuracy and dimensions of completed parts against specifications.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting:Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs on lathes to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Technical Interpretation:Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to understand the required part design and dimensions.

Material Handling:Work with various materials, such as steel, aluminum, and plastic, and ensure they are handled safely.

- Technical Knowledge: A strong understanding of how to operate and set up both manual and CNC turning machines.
