Job Description:
A pump operator controls and maintains power-driven machinery to transfer liquids, gases, or slurries. Key duties include monitoring system gauges, performing routine equipment maintenance, and keeping detailed operational logs.
Role Overview
- Job Title: Pump Operator / Pump House Attendant
- Primary Objective: Ensure safe, continuous, and efficient movement of fluids through pipelines and systems.
- Work Environment: Industrial plants, water treatment facilities, construction sites, or oil and gas fields.
Key Responsibilities
- Operation: Start, stop, and regulate pumps, valves, and manifolds to control fluid flow rates and pressure.
- Monitoring: Read gauges, meters, and computerized panels to check temperatures, pressures, and tank levels.
- Maintenance: Inspect equipment for leaks or unusual vibrations; lubricate moving parts and tighten loose fittings.
- Troubleshooting: Identify mechanical or electrical failures and perform basic fixes or coordinate with repair teams.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow strict workplace safety rules and wear protective gear when handling hazardous materials.
- Record Keeping: Maintain daily logs of material volumes moved, power usage, and maintenance tasks performed.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (technical/vocational training in mechanics is a plus).
- Mechanical Aptitude: Strong understanding of pump mechanics, piping systems, and hand tools.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy equipment, and work in various weather conditions.
