Job Description:
A Shift Incharge (SI) in a Sponge Iron (SID) plant leads operations during a shift, ensuring safety, quality, and productivity, by managing personnel, overseeing maintenance (mechanical/electrical), troubleshooting breakdowns (kilns, conveyors, motors, VFDs), coordinating teams, and maintaining logs/reports for smooth plant function. Key duties include leading electricians/technicians, implementing preventive maintenance, resolving emergencies, and reporting to management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Supervision: Oversee all plant activities, ensuring smooth workflow and meeting production targets during the shift.
- Team Leadership: Guide, train, and manage shift staff (electricians, technicians, operators) and resolve conflicts.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
- Mechanical: Manage maintenance on kilns, coolers, conveyors, crushers, pumps, and compressors.
- Electrical: Handle HT/LT systems, VFDs, MCC panels, motors, and emergency repairs.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Reporting: Prepare shift reports, breakdown logs, and equipment health monitoring.
- Coordination: Liaise with operations, electrical, and instrumentation teams for seamless work.
Essential Skills:
- Strong technical knowledge (mechanical/electrical specific to SID plants).
- Leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making under pressure.
- Good communication and team management skills.
Focus Areas:
- Equipment: Kilns, Rotary Equipment, Conveyors, Motors, VFDs, MCC Panels, Crushers, Pumps, Compressors.
- Industry: Steel, Sponge Iron (SID), DRI.
