Job Description:
A Shift Incharge (Process) for a Sponge Iron Division (SID) / Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) Plant (typically 350 TPD or 100 TPD configuration) manages the end-to-end production operations, process parameters, and safety within a specific shift. They ensure the kiln operates efficiently to produce high-quality sponge iron while minimizing downtime and maximizing output.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Production & Process Control:
- Monitor and control Rotary Kiln parameters, including raw material feed rates (iron ore, coal, dolomite), temperatures (1000°C+), accretion formation, and product quality.
- Oversee the Control Room Operations (CRO) to maintain optimized process conditions.
- Ensure proper coal distribution and kiln feeding profiles to meet production targets.
- Operational Management:
- Supervise all process sections: Raw Material Handling System (RMHS), Kiln, Cooler, and Product House.
- Achieve daily production and quality targets for sponge iron.
- Conduct breakdown analysis and implement corrective actions for equipment failures.
- Manage shift handover, ensuring all reports and observations are accurately documented.
- Safety & Maintenance Coordination:
- Enforce safety protocols (HSE, LOTO, Housekeeping) for all staff, particularly during maintenance tasks.
- Coordinate with mechanical and electrical teams for routine, preventive, and breakdown maintenance.
- Monitor pollution control equipment (ESP, BAG Filters) and ensure emission compliance.
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise field operators, helpers, and engineers, providing training and assigning tasks.
- Ensure proper utilization of raw materials and minimize feed loss.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Education: B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: 3-10 years of experience in Coal-Based Sponge Iron (DRI) Plant Operations.
- Skills: Proficiency in rotary kiln operations, process troubleshooting, DCS systems, and team management.
Target Capacity Focus
- 100 TPD: Often requires hands-on involvement with troubleshooting and operator supervision.
- 350 TPD: Focuses more on process optimization, team management, and handling multiple systems simultaneously.
