Job Description:

• A supervisor of loading and unloading operations is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and accurate handling of goods during loading and unloading. Key duties include supervising a team, coordinating workflows, enforcing safety protocols, managing schedules, and ensuring proper documentation and handling of shipments to prevent damage. 
   
  Key responsibilities
  • Team Supervision: Assign tasks to workers, monitor their performance, and ensure they follow company policies and safety standards.
  • Operational Oversight: Supervise and coordinate the loading and unloading of goods from conveyances like trucks and trains.
  • Safety and Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety regulations and protocols to prevent accidents and damage.
  • Quality Control: Inspect goods for damage before and after loading, ensure proper stacking and securing of packages, and manage spills or leaks.
  • Coordination: Work with other departments, such as warehouse and transport teams, to ensure smooth and timely operations.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of shipments and handle all related paperwork, such as bills of lading and other transportation documents.
  • Problem-Solving: Address and resolve day-to-day issues that arise, such as equipment malfunctions or staffing shortages.
  • Training and Development: Train and mentor team members on loading/unloading best practices and safety procedures.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections of loading equipment and work areas to ensure they are in good working condition. 
   
  Qualifications and skills
  • Experience: Previous experience in a warehouse or logistics environment, often with supervisory experience.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational, planning, and multitasking abilities.
  • Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Technical Skills: Basic understanding of inventory management and familiarity with relevant software is often required.
  • Physical: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and perform physical tasks as needed, such as lifting and standing for long periods.
