Job Description:
A Control Room Operator (CRO) for the Sponge Iron Division (SID) (DRI Plant) in a steel company monitors and controls rotary kilns and auxiliary systems via Distributed Control Systems (DCS/SCADA). They ensure optimal production rates, quality control, kiln temperature management, and safety protocols to prevent kiln jams.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Control: Operate kilns through SCADA/DCS, adjusting raw material feed rates and fuel ratios to maintain quality standards.
- Operational Monitoring: Continuously monitor kiln temperatures, pressure, and kiln speed.
- Troubleshooting: Address process anomalies, such as kiln jams or temperature fluctuations.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety, health, and environmental regulations during operations.
- Data Reporting: Maintain accurate logs of production data, process parameters, and operational issues.
- Coordination: Collaborate with plant field operators to ensure smooth material handling and equipment functioning.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Typically requires a Diploma in Engineering (Chemical/Mechanical) or BSC.
- Experience: Usually 1–5 years of relevant experience in a sponge iron or direct reduced iron (DRI) plant.
- Skills: Proficiency in DCS/SCADA systems, strong analytical skills, process safety awareness, and troubleshooting abilities.
