Job Description:
An Electrical Head (also known as Head of Electrical, Electrical Head of Department, or Lead Electrical Engineer) oversees all electrical systems, operations, maintenance, safety compliance, and personnel within a facility, manufacturing plant, or project site.
Job Overview
The Electrical Head leads the electrical and electronics department to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient power distribution, automation, and equipment performance. This role bridges technical engineering oversight with administrative and team management.
Key Responsibilities
- Department & Team Leadership: Supervise, schedule, mentor, and evaluate electrical engineers, technicians, wiremen, and shift electricians.
- Plant & System Operations: Oversee High-Tension (HT) and Low-Tension (LT) power distribution, control systems, wiring schematics, and electrical architecture.
- Maintenance & Reliability: Direct preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of electrical machinery and backup power systems to minimize downtime.
- Project & Budget Management: Plan and execute electrical installation, testing, and commissioning projects while managing departmental budgets and vendor/contractor relations.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict electrical safety rules, local/national electrical codes, and OSHA/statutory compliance standards.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with civil, mechanical, production, and senior management teams for plant expansions or retrofits.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (B.EE / B.Tech); a Master’s degree or Professional Engineer (PE) license is often preferred.
- Experience: 5 to 10+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience, including 2 to 3 years in a supervisory or departmental head role.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in electrical design software and tools (such as ETAP, AutoCAD, SPEL, or EDSA), PLC/scada systems, and panel/schematic reviews.
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, decision-making, crisis troubleshooting, and written/verbal communication skills.
