Job Description:
An IT Officer plans, coordinates, and maintains an organization's computer systems, networks, and hardware/software infrastructure while providing technical support to staff. 
Job Title
Information Technology (IT) Officer (also known as ICT Officer or IT Support Specialist)
Role Summary
The IT Officer ensures the smooth, secure, and uninterrupted operation of day-to-day technology services. This role acts as the primary point of contact for technical support, system maintenance, network health, and user account management. 
Key Responsibilities
  • Technical & Helpdesk Support:
    • Resolve first-line hardware, software, and network incidents and service requests.
    • Troubleshoot desktop computers, laptops, printers, IP phones, and peripherals. 
  • System & Infrastructure Maintenance:
    • Install, configure, and update operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS) and enterprise applications.
    • Monitor network performance, routers, switches, and firewalls.
    • Perform routine system backups and test disaster recovery procedures. User & Account Management:
    • Manage employee onboarding (setting up accounts, email distribution lists, and access permissions) and offboarding (revoking access and archiving data).
    • Train end-users on standard software tools and security best practices. 
  • Cybersecurity & Compliance:
    • Enforce IT policies, deploy antivirus/EDM tools, and monitor for unauthorized access.
    • Maintain hardware and software asset inventories, license records, and audit logs.
  • Vendor & Project Coordination:
    • Liaise with external IT contractors, managed service providers (MSPs), and hardware vendors to resolve complex issues.
    • Evaluate and test new technology tools or infrastructure upgrades.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience). 
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Proficiency in Windows Server, Linux, and macOS environments.
    • Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls, and LAN/WAN administration.
    • Familiarity with database systems (SQL Server) and virtualization platforms (VMware).
    • Basic knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and data protection practices.
