Job Summary
The Dispatch Supervisor manages daily dispatch and logistics operations, ensuring on-time delivery of services, optimal resource allocation, and strict adherence to safety and company regulations. This role combines hands-on dispatching with team leadership, coaching, and performance reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate dispatchers and/or drivers; conduct daily shift briefings and performance reviews.
- Route & Schedule Optimization: Oversee the creation and adjustment of daily delivery or service schedules using web-based dispatch and GPS tracking software.
- Real-Time Problem Solving: Handle service interruptions, route changes, vehicle breakdowns, rush orders, and driver or customer inquiries.
- Performance & Data Reporting: Track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), generate Excel or software reports on on-time delivery rates, and analyze operational efficiency.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT), local health, and safety regulations, including verifying driver licenses and medical cards.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with warehouse, customer service, sales, and fleet maintenance teams to resolve bottlenecks and inventory issues.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
- High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or business preferred.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in logistics, transportation, or dispatch operations, including at least 1–2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
Technical & Soft Skills
- Software Proficiency: Experience with dispatch/routing software, GPS fleet tracking, and Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, data reporting).
- Leadership & Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to manage teams, drivers, and external stakeholders.
- Critical Thinking: Ability to make split-second decisions under high-pressure or emergency conditions.
- Organizational Skills: Multi-tasking capability with high attention to detail regarding schedules and compliance logs.
