Job Description:
A Junior Chemist works under the supervision of senior scientists or lab managers to conduct routine laboratory tests, prepare chemical solutions, and manage quality control data.
Job Overview
- Role Type: Entry-level to mid-level
- Typical Education: B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Chemistry (Organic, Inorganic, Analytical, or Industrial)
- Core Goal: Support research, product development, or quality control (QC) testing following strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Key Responsibilities
- Sample Preparation: Weigh, digest, extract, and prepare raw materials, chemical compounds, or test solutions.
- Laboratory Testing: Perform wet chemistry analysis, physical property tests, and qualitative/quantitative assays.
- Instrument Operation: Operate and maintain lab equipment such as pH meters, balances, spectrometers (OES, XRF), or chromatographers (HPLC, GC).
- Data Recording: Log experimental data accurately in lab notebooks, LIMS, or digital sheets, and report findings to senior staff.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow lab safety protocols, handle hazardous materials properly, and maintain ISO or GMP standards.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry or a related science field.
- Experience: 0 to 3 years of lab or industrial experience (academic projects and internships count).
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with titration, distillation, crystallization, and basic analytical instrumentation.
- Soft Skills: Attention to detail, documentation discipline, teamwork, and basic computer proficiency (MS Office).
