Job Description:

Job Summary

Responsible for safe rigging, lifting, shifting, and positioning of mechanical equipment, components, and heavy materials during maintenance, installation, erection, and shutdown activities in the Captive Power Plant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform rigging and lifting activities for mechanical maintenance and erection work.
  • Handle and shift heavy equipment such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves, pipes, structural components, and other machinery.
  • Select appropriate slings, wire ropes, shackles, hooks, chain blocks, and lifting accessories according to load requirements.
  • Inspect lifting tools and tackles before use.
  • Check wire ropes, slings, shackles, hooks, chain blocks, and lifting equipment for damage or wear.
  • Properly secure and balance loads before lifting.
  • Coordinate with crane operators, Hydra operators, mechanical fitters, supervisors, and signalmen.
  • Give proper hand signals to crane/Hydra operators during lifting operations.
  • Assist in equipment installation, dismantling, alignment, and positioning.
  • Support mechanical maintenance during plant shutdown and breakdown activities.
  • Follow safe lifting practices and maintain safe working distances.
  • Ensure lifting accessories are within their safe working load (SWL).
  • Maintain proper housekeeping around the lifting area.
  • Barricade lifting zones and prevent unauthorized personnel from entering dangerous areas.
  • Report damaged lifting equipment or unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Follow CPP safety procedures, work permits, PPE requirements, and SOPs.
  • Assist in emergency maintenance and critical lifting activities when required.

Required Skills

  • Good knowledge of rigging and lifting techniques.
  • Knowledge of wire ropes, slings, shackles, hooks, chain blocks, and lifting tackles.
  • Understanding of SWL/WLL and basic load estimation.
  • Good knowledge of crane and Hydra hand signals.
  • Ability to balance and secure heavy loads.
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment handling.
  • Strong safety awareness.
  • Good coordination and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work at height when properly trained and authorized.
  • Ability to work in shifts and during plant shutdowns.

Qualification

  • 8th / 10th Pass or ITI preferred.
  • Rigger training/certification preferred.
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in mechanical maintenance, CPP, steel plant, power plant, or heavy industry.
  • Experience in shutdown/erection work will be an advantage.
