Job Description:
A Mechanical Maintenance Head leads the mechanical engineering and repair team, manages plant asset reliability, and runs preventive programs to reduce downtime. Typical openings require a B.Tech/B.E. in Mechanical Engineering with 10 to 15+ years of heavy industry experience (such as manufacturing, chemical, or power).
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy & Operations: Plan and execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance programs for rotating and static equipment.
- Uptime & Reliability: Drive root-cause analysis (RCA) on major equipment failures to boost machinery availability and lifespan.
- Shutdown Management: Plan and successfully execute major plant turnarounds and annual shutdowns.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor maintenance engineers, technicians, and outside contractors.
- Budget & Inventory: Manage departmental spending, repair costs, and critical spare parts inventory levels.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce strict health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards and statutory guidelines.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: 10–15 years of hands-on industrial plant experience with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of pumps, compressors, valves, conveyors, and utility systems.
- Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or SAP PM.
- Core Competencies: Problem-solving, risk assessment, budget control, and vendor management.
