Job Description:
A Production Head oversees the entire manufacturing and production lifecycle, aligning plant operations with strategic business goals. They drive efficiency, optimize workflows, manage plant budgets, and ensure outputs consistently meet safety and quality benchmarks.
Role Overview
The Production Head (or Head of Production) is responsible for the overall strategic and operational leadership of the manufacturing facilities. This executive role bridges high-level corporate objectives with shop-floor execution, focusing on capacity planning, continuous improvement, and resource optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with senior leadership to define long-term manufacturing goals, expand capacity, and align production output with market demand.
- Operational Management: Oversee daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules to guarantee on-time delivery while adhering strictly to budgetary constraints.
- Quality Control: Establish, enforce, and continuously evaluate quality control standards to reduce defect rates and improve customer satisfaction.
- Process Optimization: Champion lean manufacturing, 6S methodologies, and continuous improvement projects to eliminate waste and reduce plant operating costs.
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of production managers, shift supervisors, and engineers. Oversee workforce planning, training, and performance evaluations.
- Health, Safety, & Compliance: Enforce stringent health, safety, and environmental regulations to maintain a zero-incident work environment. Ensure complete legal and policy compliance.
- Asset & Inventory Management: Oversee preventive maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime. Manage raw material inventories and collaborate with procurement to prevent supply chain bottlenecks.
- Data & Reporting: Track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), yield rates, and labor efficiency. Report performance data directly to executive management.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Manufacturing Cost per Unit: The total cost incurred to produce a single unit of product.
- Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE): The percentage of manufacturing time that is truly productive (Availability × Performance × Quality).
- On-Time In-Full (OTIF) Delivery: The percentage of customer orders delivered on time and complete.
- Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR): The number of lost-time injuries per million hours worked.
- Scrap/Rework Rate: The percentage of materials wasted or requiring rework during the production cycle.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Production Management, Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field. (A Master's degree or MBA is highly preferred).
- Experience: Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in manufacturing/production operations, with at least 5-8 years in a senior leadership role.
- Technical Skills: Deep understanding of manufacturing processes, lean manufacturing techniques, and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Soft Skills: Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and team leadership abilities. Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.
