Job Description:
An Electrical Maintenance Electrician ensures the continuous, safe operation of facility or industrial electrical systems. Responsibilities include troubleshooting faults, performing routine preventive maintenance, repairing wiring and control panels, and ensuring all work complies with local building codes and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Preventive Maintenance: Conduct scheduled inspections of transformers, circuit breakers, and electrical panels to prevent equipment breakdowns.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose electrical malfunctions using testing devices (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes) to identify root causes and rapidly implement repairs.
- Installation & Repair: Rewire circuits, replace defective components, install new lighting fixtures, and build or modify electrical systems as needed.
- Blueprint Reading: Interpret complex electrical schematics, technical diagrams, and blueprints to safely navigate system layouts.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, use lockout/tagout procedures, and follow national and local electrical codes.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or GED; completion of a formal electrical apprenticeship or vocational program.
- Certifications: Valid Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent state/regional certification.
- Experience: Proven experience in industrial or commercial electrical maintenance (often 3 to 5+ years).
- Technical Skills: Deep understanding of electrical formulas, circuit configurations, and low/high voltage systems.
- Physical Requirements: Must have good color vision, hand-eye coordination, and the ability to lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs) and stand for prolonged periods.
