Job Description:
A Senior Accountant manages complex accounting operations, ensures compliance with regulatory frameworks (such as GAAP or IFRS), and oversees financial reporting. They lead close processes, analyze financial discrepancies, and guide junior accounting staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including income statements and cash flow reports.
- General Ledger & Reconciliation: Manage the general ledger, execute month-end and year-end closing processes, and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
- Compliance & Auditing: Ensure accounting practices comply with regulatory standards and assist internal and external auditors with necessary documentation.
- Budgeting & Analysis: Analyze financial data, assist in budget preparation, and identify discrepancies in actual versus budgeted expenses.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and delegate tasks to junior accounting staff or bookkeepers.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Certification: Professional certifications such as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) are highly preferred.
- Experience: Typically requires 3 to 5 years of proven experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, or financial management.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables) and experience with enterprise accounting software like QuickBooks, SAP, or Oracle.
