Job Description:
A Structural Engineer for a fabrication plant designs, analyzes, and details steel structures for manufacturing. They bridge the gap between engineering and production by creating fabrication drawings, calculating load tolerances, selecting materials, and overseeing plant operations to ensure structural integrity and compliance with industry regulations. ]
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Analysis: Conduct structural analysis to calculate loads, stresses, and pressures on structures like trusses, platforms, and steel frames.
- Drawing & Detailing: Create and review fabrication, shop, and erection drawings using software like AutoCAD and Tekla.
- Material Management: Select appropriate materials, estimate quantities, and oversee material requirement planning (MRP) for production.
- Quality & Compliance: Ensure all designs and fabrication processes meet international standards (e.g., ISO, AWS, EN, or IS) and health and safety (EHS) regulations.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Liaise with clients, project managers, procurement teams, and shop-floor workers to resolve design conflicts and prevent bottlenecks.
Essential Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Experience: Typically 5 to 10+ years of hands-on experience in heavy industrial structural fabrication.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in drafting software (AutoCAD, Tekla Structures) and structural analysis software (e.g., STAAD.Pro).
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of welding procedures, CNC cutting, and steel grading.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and project management abilities.
