Job Description:
A Raw Material Supervisor or Batching Operator in a Ferro Alloys Plant manages the critical preparation, weighing, and feeding of raw materials (like manganese ore, chrome ore, coke, and fluxes) into furnaces. They ensure accurate mix designs for consistent metal production.
Core Responsibilities
1. Batching & Mix Preparation
- Recipe Execution: Accurately measure and mix raw materials based on precise metallurgical formulas to achieve desired alloy grades (e.g., Ferro Chrome, Silico Manganese).
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate computerized batch control systems, mixers, feeders, and conveyors.
- Moisture & Sizing Control: Routinely check moisture content and particle size of input materials, adjusting weights as required.
2. Raw Material Management & Logistics
- Yard Operations: Supervise the unloading of raw materials (ores, coal, slag) and oversee weighbridge operations.
- Inventory Tracking: Monitor stock levels daily, prevent material stock-outs, and coordinate with vendors to meet production demands.
- Housekeeping: Ensure the storage and shifting zones of the Raw Material Handling Plant (RMHP) are kept clean and organized.
3. Quality Control & Reporting
- Material Inspection: Visually inspect materials for quality before feeding and coordinate with the quality/laboratory teams.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate logs of batch quantities, consumption rates, and material lot numbers.
4. Safety & Compliance
- HSE Protocols: Enforce strict health, safety, and environmental guidelines, ensuring operators wear necessary PPE.
- Maintenance: Conduct routine checks on machinery (e.g., lubricating equipment), reporting defects to the maintenance team.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Typically requires 3-8years of experience in raw material feeding, weighing, and batching within the metallurgy or steel industry.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of ferro alloy compositions, Submerged Arc Furnace (SAF) inputs, and slag properties.
- Skills: Proficiency in operating batching software, handling forklifts/loaders, and basic troubleshooting.
