Job Description:
A Purchase Officer for a Ferro Alloys plant manages the end-to-end procurement of raw materials and engineering spares. Their primary goal is to ensure cost-effectiveness, quality, and timely delivery of essential inputs to support uninterrupted furnace and production operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Sourcing: Identify, evaluate, and develop reliable suppliers for bulk raw materials (e.g., iron ore, manganese ore, coal, and fluxes) and ferro alloy additions (Ferro Chrome, Ferro Silicon, Ferro Manganese).
- Procurement Operations: Generate Purchase Orders (POs) through ERP software, track shipments, and manage shipment documentation and logistics clearance.
- Rate Negotiation: Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and payment terms to minimize procurement costs and maximize working capital.
- Inventory Control: Monitor stock levels of raw materials, refractories, and plant spares to prevent stockouts and manage min/max inventory thresholds.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate closely with Production, Quality Assurance, Finance, and Logistics teams to align purchasing with operational requirements.
Qualifications & Competencies
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Metallurgical) or a relevant science background. An MBA in Supply Chain Management is an added advantage.
- Experience: Typically 4 to 8 years of industrial purchasing experience, heavily focused on the ferro alloys or steel manufacturing industry.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in using ERP/Materials Management software like SAP MM. Knowledge of metal commodity price trends and LME rates is highly preferred
