Job Description:
A Construction Purchase Manager oversees the end-to-end acquisition of materials, equipment, and services for building projects. Their primary goal is to ensure projects stay within budget and on schedule by procuring the right materials at the most competitive prices without compromising on quality.
- Procurement Planning: Review engineering blueprints, understand the Bill of Quantities (BOQ), and establish site-specific material budgets and procurement schedules.
- Vendor Management: Identify, evaluate, and maintain a robust network of reliable suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Negotiation & Purchasing: Send Requests for Proposals (RFPs), build cost-comparative statements, and negotiate pricing, delivery terms, and contracts.
- Quality & Delivery Tracking: Coordinate with the site engineering team to ensure "just-in-time" delivery of supplies, and inspect incoming materials to meet specifications.
- Inventory Control: Monitor on-site warehouse stock levels, reconcile invoices against Purchase Orders (POs), and process subcontractor payments.
- Compliance: Ensure all transactions abide by regulatory standards, company policies, and regional building codes.
Key Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience: Typically 5–7 years in construction procurement, with proven knowledge of raw materials (cement, steel, aggregates) and finishing products.
- Skills: Strong contract negotiation, vendor evaluation, and analytical skills. Proficiency in construction management software, ERPs, and Microsoft Excel is essential.
