Job Description:
A Mechanical Maintenance Engineer in a steel manufacturing plant ensures the operational efficiency and reliability of heavy equipment . They execute preventive maintenance programs, troubleshoot breakdowns in machinery like conveyors and rolling mills, and enforce industrial safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance Execution: Plan and perform preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance on heavy machinery.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical failures in real-time and perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to prevent recurring issues.
- Asset Optimization: Recommend improvements and equipment upgrades to maximize uptime and operational efficiency.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict safety protocols, including Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) and PPE compliance.
- Inventory Management: Oversee mechanical spare parts inventory and coordinate with the procurement department.
Core Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: Typically 5 to 10+ years in mechanical maintenance within a heavy manufacturing or steel production environment.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, conveyors, and overhead cranes.
- Soft Skills: Problem-solving, shift team leadership, and cross-functional coordination.
Work Environment
- Typically involves working rotating shifts (day/night) and spending substantial time on the heavy industrial shop floor.
- Requires the ability to handle emergency equipment breakdowns in high-temperature settings like the Steel Melting Shop (SMS) or Rolling Mills.
