Job Description:
An Assistant Accountant for a steel plant supports the finance team by managing day-to-day bookkeeping, vendor invoicing, inventory tracking, and statutory compliance. They typically prepare financial records and assist with cost accounting for raw materials like scrap, iron ore, and TMT bars. [1, 2, 3]
Key Responsibilities
- Bookkeeping & Data Entry: Maintain daily ledgers, process purchase orders, and verify incoming vendor invoices using ERP software like Tally Prime or SAP. [1, 2]
- Inventory & Cost Tracking: Assist in valuing raw materials (scrap, sponge iron, alloys) and tracking manufacturing overheads for work-in-progress and finished goods. [1, 2]
- Reconciliation: Reconcile accounts payable (vendor payments), accounts receivable (client billing), and bank statements to ensure zero discrepancies. [1, 2, 3]
- Taxation & Compliance: Generate E-Way bills for outgoing vehicle dispatches and assist with statutory filings like GST and TDS/TCS. [1, 2]
- Audit Support: Prepare financial documents, expense reports, and vouchers to ensure audit-ready files for internal and external reviews. [1, 2]
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: B.Com in Commerce or Finance; a postgraduate degree is a plus.
- Experience: Typically 1 to 3 years of core accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or metal industry setting.
- Key Skills: High proficiency in Tally Prime, Microsoft Excel, and enterprise business software.
