ENVIRONMENT MANAGER FOR STEEL MANUFACTURING - GUJARAT
Job Description:
The Environment Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring environmental management systems (EMS) to ensure the steel manufacturing plant operates in full compliance with local, national, and international environmental regulations. This role focuses on mitigating the environmental footprint of steel production—specifically targeting air emissions, wastewater treatment, hazardous waste management, and carbon reduction initiatives strategies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Regulatory Compliance & Permitting

Serve as the primary point of contact for environmental regulatory agencies.

Secure, maintain, and renew all necessary environmental permits (e.g., Title V Air Permits, NPDES water discharge permits, RCRA hazardous waste management).

Ensure the facility is fully prepared for unannounced regulatory inspections and internal environmental audits.
2. Emissions & Pollution Control

Oversee the performance and compliance of air pollution control systems, including Baghouses, Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs), and Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).

Monitor and report on criteria pollutants ($\text{SO}_x$, $\text{NO}_x$, particulate matter) and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
3. Water & Waste Management

Manage the onsite industrial wastewater treatment facility, ensuring effluent meets legal discharge limits before recycling or release.

Develop optimization strategies for coproducts and byproducts unique to steelmaking, such as blast furnace slag, EAF dust, and mill scale, aiming to maximize recycling and minimize landfilling.
4. Sustainability & Decarbonization

Lead initiatives to reduce the plant’s carbon intensity, supporting the transition toward green steel technologies (e.g., maximizing scrap utilization, DRI/H2 integration basics).

Track, analyze, and report key environmental performance indicators (KPIs) to corporate leadership.
Qualifications & Experience
| Requirement | Description |
| Education | Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related technical field. |
| Experience | Minimum of 7–10 years of environmental management experience in a heavy industrial setting (Steel mill, foundry, or heavy chemical processing plant experience highly preferred). |
| Technical Knowledge | Deep understanding of environmental regulations (e.g., EPA standards like CAA, CWA, RCRA, or regional equivalents) and ISO 14001 Standards. |
| Certifications |
CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager), REM (Registered Environmental Manager), or PE (Professional Engineer) license is a major plus.
