Job Description:
A construction and infrastructure accountant drives project profitability and financial compliance by managing budgets, costs, and cash flow for long-term projects. They bridge the gap between field operations and corporate finance, handling everything from contract administration and vendor payments to revenue recognition and audit preparation. [1, 2]
Key Responsibilities
- Project Accounting & Cost Control: Track direct and indirect project expenses (labor, materials, and overhead) against established budgets, proactively identifying potential cost overruns. [1]
- Contract & Vendor Management: Review and process purchase orders, subcontractor invoices, and consultant payment requests while tracking retainage and change orders. [1, 2]
- Financial Reporting: Generate comprehensive daily, monthly, and annual financial reports, including work-in-progress (WIP) and budget variance analyses for management and stakeholders. [1, 2]
- Cash Flow Management: Prepare financial forecasts, monitor liquidity, and process loan draws or milestone-based billings to sustain operations through long project cycles. [1, 2, 3]
- Compliance & Auditing: Ensure all financial activities meet statutory regulations, taxation laws, and Government Accounting Standards when working on public infrastructure projects. [1]
Required Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field. [1, 2]
- Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in corporate accounting, specifically dealing with construction project accounting or infrastructure development. [1, 2, 3]
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in advanced Excel and industry-standard ERP/accounting software (such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, or Sage). [1, 2, 3]
- Analytical Prowess: A keen eye for detail, strong mathematical skills, and the ability to negotiate and analyze market trends impacting material costs. [1, 2]
