Job Description:
A Dispatch Manager in a power plant coordinates the logistical movement of bulk materials—such as coal, ash, and heavy equipment—while ensuring safe operations and compliance. They optimize transportation, oversee warehouse staff, and maintain supply chain continuity. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Key Responsibilities
- Logistics & Material Flow: Oversee the scheduling, loading, and dispatching of bulk trucks and railcars (e.g., coal delivery and ash disposal) to and from the facility. [1, 2]
- Vendor & Carrier Management: Negotiate freight rates, manage transport contracts, and build relationships with shipping and transport vendors. [1, 2]
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict safety protocols (e.g., PPE, vehicle checks) and environmental regulations for all incoming and outgoing heavy machinery. [1]
- Inventory & Systems Tracking: Utilize enterprise resource planning (ERP) software and GPS tracking to monitor stock levels, manage delivery times, and route shipments efficiently. [1, 2]
- Team Leadership: Recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate transport drivers and logistics support staff. [1]
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience: 8+ years of relevant experience in transportation, supply chain, or plant logistics (heavy industrial or manufacturing background preferred).
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), ERP software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
