Job Description:
A CCTV operator for a jewellery store is responsible for monitoring surveillance systems to protect high-value inventory, prevent theft, and ensure staff safety. The ideal candidate maintains high vigilance, investigates suspicious behavior, and assists with security audits. [1, 2, 3]
Key Responsibilities
- Continuous Surveillance: Monitor live video feeds from multiple CCTV cameras across the showroom, entry points, back office, and safes to identify suspicious activity.
- Theft Prevention: Observe customer interactions, particularly at display counters, to prevent shoplifting, sleight of hand, or inventory swapping.
- Incident Response: Alert store managers or security personnel in real-time regarding breaches, emergencies, or unusual customer behavior.
- Access Control: Monitor individuals entering and leaving restricted areas, such as vaults and stockrooms.
- Footage Management: Archive and review recorded footage for investigations, audits, or law enforcement requests.
- System Maintenance: Ensure all cameras, monitors, and recording devices are fully functional, promptly reporting technical faults.
- Daily Logging: Maintain accurate, confidential logs of surveillance activities, shift handovers, and security incidents. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Typically 2–3 years of prior experience in security, surveillance, or CCTV operation within the retail or jewellery sector.
- Observation Skills: High attention to detail with the ability to spot irregularities and focus on multiple screens simultaneously.
- Integrity & Discretion: High ethical standards to maintain strict confidentiality regarding store layouts and security protocols.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) camera controls, DVR/NVR systems, and basic video playback software. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
