A Senior Mill Fitter for a Round Mill (specialized rolling mill for circular steel products) is a critical maintenance role responsible for the precision alignment, assembly, and upkeep of machinery to ensure continuous production. They lead maintenance tasks, diagnose complex breakdowns, and ensure high-quality, defect-free production. [1, 2]
This position often requires 5–10 years of experience, particularly with roll shops, guide assembly, and heavy steel mill maintenance. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Key Responsibilities
- Roll and Guide Assembly: Expertly assemble, align, and install rolls, stands, and guide tackle specifically for producing round profiles.
- Maintenance and Repair: Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on gearboxes, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems.
- Precision Alignment: Use precision tools (levels, theodolites, straightedges) to ensure precise alignment of roll stands.
- Breakdown Management: Quickly diagnose faults during operational stoppages and execute repairs within tight time limits to minimize downtime.
- Team Leadership: Supervise junior fitters and contract workers, providing guidance on best practices and safety procedures.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere strictly to LOTO (Lockout-Tagout) and PPE safety standards. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in a steel rolling mill, specifically with roll shop, assembly, or block fitting.
- Education: ITI Fitter certificate, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical education.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and gearbox repair.
- Ability to Read Blueprints: Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings, manuals, and schematics.
- Tools Proficency: Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and grinders. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
