Job Title:
AutoCAD Designer / Drafter – Fabrication
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented AutoCAD Professional to join our fabrication plant. The ideal candidate will translate engineering specifications and conceptual designs into accurate, detailed 2D blueprints and 3D models. These drawings will serve as the primary guide for our manufacturing, welding, and assembly team.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Drafting & Design: Create precise 2D and 3D technical drawings, General Arrangement (GA) layouts, and structural details using AutoCAD.
  • Fabrication Drawings: Develop detailed shop drawings, fabrication plans, and isometric views specifically for metalwork, piping, or structural components.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure all designs and drafted layouts comply with industrial safety codes, material specifications, and company quality standards.
  • Material Estimation: Calculate the required strength, quantity, and cost of materials, and generate accurate Bill of Materials (BOM) or cutting lists.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, production supervisors, and engineering teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet client requirements.
  • Revisions & Updates: Review rough sketches and revise existing drawings based on design modifications, client feedback, or engineering changes.
  • Site Support: Occasionally visit the shop floor or field to take measurements, verify dimensions, and assist with "as-built" drawing creation.
  • Documentation: Maintain an organized, up-to-date digital library of CAD files, revision histories, and project specifications.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Structural Engineering, or a Diploma in Drafting/CAD Technology (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: [Insert number, e.g., 2–5] years of proven experience in AutoCAD within a manufacturing, heavy fabrication, or structural steel environment.
  • Software Skills: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (2D/3D); familiarity with 3D modeling software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or Inventor) is a strong plus.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, welding symbols, machining, and metal fabrication workflows.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent spatial visualization, strong mathematical skills, keen attention to detail, and the ability to work under tight production deadlines.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
  • This role operates primarily in an office/design studio setting, but requires frequent visits to the potentially loud and active fabrication shop floor.
