Job Description:
An Accountant for a coal washery manages day-to-day financial operations specific to coal beneficiation. Key responsibilities include handling inventory valuation for raw and washed coal, monitoring processing costs, generating e-way bills for dispatches, and ensuring statutory compliance such as GST and TDS.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Coal Inventory and Cost Accounting
- Maintain accurate records of raw coal (ROM), washed coal, and rejects/middlings.
- Track shrinkage, moisture loss, and washing yields to assist in accurate cost analysis.
- Monitor daily weighbridge data and reconcile it with production and dispatch logs.
2. Dispatch and Logistics Management
- Generate invoices, delivery challans, and e-way bills for coal transportation.
- Reconcile transport and freight charges with respective vendors.
- Monitor receivables against sales to maintain healthy cash flow.
3. Day-to-Day Accounting
- Process accounts payable (vendors, mining companies, contractors) and accounts receivable (buyers, power plants).
- Prepare and maintain daybooks, ledger entries, and site cash/bank balances.
- Perform monthly bank and creditor reconciliations.
4. Statutory Compliance and Taxation
- Ensure accurate calculation and timely filing of GST, TDS, and TCS returns.
- Maintain compliance with relevant mining and environmental taxation laws.
- Support internal and external audits (including tax audits) and prepare data for government assessments.
5. Reporting and MIS
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly Management Information System (MIS) reports, including coal costing and profitability statements.
- Develop budgets, monitor operational expenses, and present financial DPRs (Daily Progress Reports) to top management or banking institutions.
Key Requirements (Qualifications & Skills):
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (B.Com), Master’s in Commerce (M.Com), or semi-qualified CA/ICWA.
- Experience: Proven accounting experience, ideally in manufacturing, mining, or the coal/minerals sector.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in accounting software like Tally ERP/Prime, SAP (FICO/HANA), and advanced MS Excel.
- Industry Knowledge: Understanding of coal beneficiation processes, weighbridge operations, and bulk material handling is highly desired.
