Job Description:
The SMS (Steel Melting Shop) Head is a senior-level role in steel manufacturing, responsible for end-to-end production operations, including electric arc furnaces (EAF), Induction Furnaces, Ladle Refining Furnaces (LRF), and Continuous Casting Machines (CCM). They ensure production targets, quality, cost-efficiency, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Management: Lead daily operations of the SMS, including charging, melting, and casting, to meet or exceed production targets.
- Process Optimization: Drive efficiency in energy consumption, raw material charge-mix, and yield improvement.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure chemical consistency and temperature control, maintaining high-quality standards (alloy/stainless steel).
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict safety protocols, environmental regulations, and plant hygiene.
- Team Leadership: Lead engineers, technicians, and operators; provide training, scheduling, and performance management.
- Maintenance & Cost Control: Coordinate with maintenance for breakdown reduction and control cost per ton.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 5-8 years in steel melting (EAF/Induction Furnace).
- Education: Graduate/Postgraduate in Metallurgy or Engineering.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of SMS operations, LRF, and CCM technology.
- Leadership: Strong team management and operational leadership experience.
- Skills: Cost optimization, raw material sourcing, Process Improvement (Six Sigma, Kaizen, TPM).
