Job Description:
An Assistant Accountant at a power plant supports the financial team by managing daily bookkeeping, inventory tracking, accounts payable/receivable, and compliance with strict environmental or operational regulations. They ensure accurate financial records for plant operations (e.g., fuel purchasing, equipment maintenance) and often report to a Plant Accountant or Controller. 
 
Core Responsibilities
  • Bookkeeping & Transactions: Maintain accurate daily financial records, including recording journal entries in ERP systems like SAP or Oracle.
  • Accounts Payable/Receivable (AP/AR): Process vendor invoices for fuel, spare parts, and contractor services, cross-checking with Purchase Orders (PO).
  • Inventory & Cost Accounting: Assist with tracking inventory levels, reconciliations, and Cost Centre wise accounting.
  • Reconciliation & Reporting: Perform bank reconciliations and assist with daily/weekly/monthly MIS reports, including budget vs. actual cost analyses.
  • Statutory Compliance: Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including TDS, GST, or VAT, as well as internal compliance guidelines.
  • Operational Support: Coordinate with procurement and technical teams on site, providing documentation for audits. 
     
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (B.Com) or Accounting (M.Com).
  • Experience: 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or plant environment.
  • Technical Skills: High proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Tally, QBO).
  • Knowledge: Understanding of GAAP, cost accounting, and tax compliance. 
     
Specific Skills for Power Plant Context
  • Variance Analysis: Ability to compare actual costs against project budgets.
  • System Knowledge: Experience with ERP tools like SAP FI CO.
  • HSE Compliance: Familiarity with safety standards (HSE-MS) as part of plant operations.
  • Document Control: Strong attention to detail to manage complex Purchase Orders and work vouchers
