Job Description:
A Power Plant Chemist ensures the safe, efficient operation of power generation equipment by monitoring water, steam, and fuel quality to prevent corrosion, scaling, and environmental issues. Responsibilities include managing water treatment plants, analyzing fuel, testing cooling systems, ensuring environmental compliance, and performing laboratory testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Water/Steam Chemistry Management: Monitor feedwater, boiler water, condensate, and steam quality, managing chemical dosing for high-pressure systems.
- Water Treatment Operations: Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot demineralization (DM) plants, Reverse Osmosis (RO) units, and wastewater treatment systems.
- Fuel Analysis: Perform proximate and ultimate analysis of coal, fuel oil, or other fuels.
- Environmental Compliance: Monitor air emissions and ensure effluent discharge meets environmental regulations.
- Laboratory Management: Perform laboratory testing using chromatography and spectroscopy, maintaining laboratory instruments.
- Operational Support: Advise operations staff on water quality, assist with boiler cleaning, and troubleshoot issues.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry or related field.
- Experience: Previous experience in a thermal, gas, or nuclear power plant setting is often required.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of chemical analysis techniques (pH, conductivity, chromatography, spectroscopy) and water treatment processes.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Safety Awareness: High attention to detail regarding chemical handling and safety.

The entity is engaged in setting up a Greenfield project at Mudpar --- Rampura villages in the Nawagarh tehsil, Bemetara district (near Mungeli), which includes 2×350 TPD DRI (sponge iron) kilns --- an 18-MW WHRB-based captive --- plant.
