Job Description:
A Boiler Distributed Control System (DCS) Engineer in a steel company is responsible for controlling, monitoring, and optimizing high-pressure boiler operations (typically AFBC, CFBC, or WHRB) from a central control room. This role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient steam generation for power generation and steel production processes, such as Sponge Iron plants.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- DCS Operation & Monitoring: Continuously control boilers, burners, feed pumps, fans, and associated auxiliaries via the DCS interface (e.g., Honeywell, Siemens, Yokogawa).
- Process Optimization: Maintain optimal combustion efficiency by adjusting fuel-to-air ratios, managing coal quality/bed temperature variations, and controlling steam pressure/temperature.
- Startup & Shutdown: Execute safe, controlled start-up and shut-down procedures according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve operational issues (e.g., bed temperature fluctuations, water level issues) in real-time and work with field operators for corrective actions.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to environmental and safety regulations (EHS), manage interlocks/protection logic, and respond to alarms and trips.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate hourly logs, trends, and reports on boiler performance and malfunctions.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Instrumentation Engineering.
- Experience: 2–8 years of experience, preferably with AFBC/WHRB boilers in captive power plants or steel manufacturing.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of boiler-turbine interlocks, PID controllers, field instrumentation, and PLC/SCADA systems.
- Required Competencies: Ability to work in shifts, analytical troubleshooting skills, and good communication for coordinating with field teams.

The entity is engaged in setting up a Greenfield project at Mudpar --- Rampura villages in the Nawagarh tehsil, Bemetara district (near Mungeli), which includes 2×350 TPD DRI (sponge iron) kilns --- an 18-MW WHRB-based captive --- plant.
