Job Description:
A Control Room Operator (CRO) for the Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) / Sponge Iron Division (SID) in a steel plant is responsible for monitoring and controlling the rotary kiln process to convert iron ore into metallic iron (solid-state reduction). This role uses Distributed Control Systems (DCS) or SCADA to manage critical process parameters like temperature, feed rates, and burner management.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Process Control: Operate rotary kilns through SCADA/DCS systems, optimizing production rates and ensuring quality while managing gas pressure and kiln RPM.
- Parameter Monitoring: Maintain optimal kiln temperatures (1000°C–1100°C) and adjust raw material charging to ensure maximum sponge iron output.
- Troubleshooting: Address process anomalies immediately, including addressing kiln hold-ups (jams), cooler issues, or feed losses.
- Safety Adherence: Strict adherence to safety protocols, including LOTO (Load-Out/Tag-Out), and managing emergency shutdowns for hot metal/gases.
- Documentation: Record production data, maintain accurate shift logs, and report on furnace performance.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience: 2–8 years in DRI/Sponge Iron plant operations (specifically rotary kilns).
- Education: Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical) or ITI.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in PLC-based control systems (DCS/SCADA/PLC) and process diagnostics.
- Competencies: Ability to work under pressure, strong team coordination, and knowledge of raw material handling.

- Salary Range: Approximately 1.80 LPA – 4.20 LPA (depending on experience and capacity of the plant)
