Job Description:
A Senior (Sr.) Fitter in a steel company (rolling mill, melt shop, or structural steel) acts as a high-level maintenance technician, responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing complex machinery such as conveyors, hydraulic systems, and gearboxes. They troubleshoot, lead junior staff, and ensure equipment complies with strict safety regulations, such as PTW (Permit to Work) systems, to minimize production downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Repair: Execute preventative and breakdown maintenance on heavy industrial machinery like rolls, stands, guides, and conveyors.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical malfunctions using technical expertise and implement prompt, high-precision repairs.
- Installation & Assembly: Assemble, install, and align new mechanical components, ensuring precision and quality standards.
- Leadership & Safety: Mentor junior fitters, provide technical guidance, and ensure adherence to safety regulations (e.g., PTW) to protect personnel.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read, interpret, and work from detailed blueprints, technical drawings, and manuals.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of repairs, maintenance, and technical inspections.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 5+ years of experience, typically as a Roll, Stand & Guide Fitter or senior maintenance fitter in a steel manufacturing environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in welding, cutting, hydraulic systems, pneumatics, and using precision measurement tools.
- Education: High school diploma, ITI in Fitter/Mechanical, or equivalent technical education.
- Capabilities: Strong troubleshooting skills, ability to lead a team, and ability to work in high-pressure environments
