Job Description:
An Assistant Shift Incharge for a Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) / Sponge Iron Plant in a steel company is responsible for supervising production, monitoring process parameters, and ensuring safety compliance during their shift. They support the Shift Incharge to meet daily production targets and maintain high-quality standards (350 TPD or 100 TPD kilns).
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Production & Process Control: Monitor Rotary Kiln parameters, including raw material feed rates (iron ore, coal, dolomite), temperatures, accretion formation, and product quality. Oversee Control Room Operations (CRO) and implement corrective actions for deviations in process parameters.
- Team Leadership: Supervise the shift crew, including operators and helpers, assign tasks, and provide on-the-job training. Maintain a disciplined work environment and foster effective teamwork.
- Maintenance Coordination: Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure smooth kiln operations, handle equipment breakdowns, and execute shutdown maintenance as scheduled.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure the DRI product meets specifications by collecting samples and analyzing them in coordination with the lab.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety regulations (HSE), including Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) protocols.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate shift logs, production data, and incident reports to ensure a smooth handover to the next shift.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Typically a Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Chemical Engineering.
- Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in a DRI/Sponge Iron plant, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of kiln operations, coal-based DRI technology, raw material handling, and material handling systems.
- Skills: Strong leadership, troubleshooting abilities, and excellent communication skills.
