Job Description:
A Manager for the Direct Reduced Iron (DRI/Sponge Iron) division at a steel company, particularly in the Raipur area, leads end-to-end plant operations, optimizing rotary kiln performance to meet production, quality, and safety targets. They typically oversee production planning, raw material handling, maintenance scheduling, and cost management to achieve high kiln availability, ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities and Skills
- Production Management: Responsible for achieving monthly/annual production targets for sponge iron, ensuring optimal quality (high Fe metal, proper carbon and metallization).
- Operational Optimization: Managing 350-500 TPD (or higher) kiln operations, optimizing raw material blends (coal/ore), and managing refractory lining life.
- Maintenance & Reliability: Overseeing preventative and corrective maintenance of kiln and heavy machinery, minimizing downtime, and implementing TPM (Total Productive Maintenance).
- Safety & Environment: Strict adherence to safety protocols (OHS) and pollution control measures (pollution control systems, particulate matter management).
- Manpower Management: Leading, motivating, and scheduling team members (shift incharge, operators).
- Inventory & Cost Control: Managing inventory of spares, coal, and iron ore; analyzing production data to reduce costs.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, or Metallurgical Engineering.
- Experience: 10-20 years in coal-based DRI/Sponge Iron plants.
- Knowledge: Expertise in rotary kiln technology, coal-based sponge iron processes, and SAP/MS Office for reporting.
