Job Description:
A Multipurpose Health Worker (MPHW) or Multitasking Worker in a hospital provides frontline, non-technical clinical support, including patient care assistance, basic vitals monitoring, cleaning, patient transport, and sanitation. They facilitate ward management, assist nurses, and handle disinfection, serving as a vital link between doctors and patients.
Core Responsibilities
- Patient Care Support: Assist patients with bathing, dressing, feeding, and using urinals/bedpans.
- Clinical Assistance: Assist with urinary catheterization, giving enemas, dressing wounds, and assisting nurses/doctors with procedures.
- Mobility & Transport: Shift patients on stretchers or wheelchairs to labs, X-ray, or operating rooms.
- Hygiene & Safety: Maintain cleanliness of wards, toilets, and beds; segregate biomedical waste, and disinfect soiled linen.
- Monitoring & Recording: Monitor patient vitals, assist with patient record-keeping, and report changes in condition to seniors.
- Administrative Tasks: Assist with inventory management, carrying messages, and managing patient supplies.
Key Requirements
- Education: Typically secondary school education (10th/12th grade), often with mandatory training as a Multipurpose Health Worker.
- Skills: Ability to follow strict medical instructions, physical stamina for lifting/transferring patients, and strong communication skills.
- Attributes: Compassion, patience, cleanliness, and the ability to work under pressure.
