Job Description:
A Stock Manager (or Store Keeper/Incharge) in a coal washery is responsible for managing the inventory of raw coal, washed coal, rejects, and plant spares. They ensure accurate tracking, storage, and movement of materials to support continuous plant operations, often working in coordination with logistics and commercial teams.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Inventory Tracking: Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of raw coal (inbound), washed coal (outbound), and rejects.
- Physical Audits: Perform regular physical inventory counts (physical verification) to ensure data records match actual stock levels on the ground.
- Receiving & Issuing: Receive, unload, inspect for quality/damage, and shelve incoming materials, including spare parts and consumables.
- Document Management: Manage documentation for coal movement, including Material Received Reports (MRR), challans, and weighbridge records.
- Stockpile Management: Ensure proper stacking, storage, and organization of different coal grades in the stockyard, utilizing methods like First-In-First-Out (FIFO).
- MIS Reporting: Prepare and submit daily/monthly reports regarding stock levels, shortages, and production figures to management.
- Logistics Coordination: Coordinate with transport contractors and weighbridge operators to manage the dispatch of finished products.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations, including environmental protection and proper handling of hazardous materials.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Experience: Proven experience (often 10+ years) as a Store Keeper, Stock Manager, or similar warehouse role, ideally in a coal washery, mining, or power plant environment.
- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, though a Bachelor’s degree in commerce or a related field is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in inventory management software, ERP systems (e.g., SAP), and MS Office (specifically Excel).
- Coal Knowledge: Understanding of coal grades, types, and beneficiation processes is highly desirable.
- Attributes: Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to maintain accurate records in a fast-paced environment.

- Zero Discrepancies: Maintaining high accuracy between physical stock and system records.
- Preventing Stockouts: Ensuring no operational downtime due to lack of consumables.
- Efficiency in Dispatch: Minimizing turn-around time for vehicles and wagons.
