Job Description:
A DM (Demineralization) Plant Chemist in a power plant operates, monitors, and troubleshoots water treatment facilities while conducting critical water/steam analysis (silica, pH, conductivity) to ensure boiler feedwater quality. Key tasks include chemical dosing, coal/fuel analysis, and environmental compliance monitoring. They hold a B.Sc. in Chemistry or similar, often specializing in analytical chemistry. 
 
Key Job Responsibilities
  • DM Plant Operation: Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot the De-mineralization (DM) plant, including regeneration of cation, anion, and mixed bed exchangers.
  • Water/Steam Analysis: Analyze raw water, cooling water, condensate, and boiler feedwater for parameters like silica, chloride, hardness, pH, and conductivity.
  • Chemical Treatment: Dosing of chemicals (e.g., hydrazine) to maintain water specifications in the cooling water, feed water, and raw water systems.
  • Fuel Analysis: Perform proximate and ultimate analysis of coal and other fuels, including moisture, ash, and calorific value testing.
  • Laboratory & Safety Management: Maintain lab equipment, manage chemical storage, and follow safety protocols.
  • Environmental Compliance: Monitor air emissions (
    ) and manage wastewater treatment systems.
  • Operational Support: Support maintenance, conduct steam boiler inspections, and assist in chemical cleaning of boiler components. 
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Education: B.Sc. in Chemistry (or M.Sc.).
  • Experience: Generally 3-4 years in a thermal power plant, steel plant, or coal washery.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants, DM plants, and chemical analysis techniques.
  • Language: Local language proficiency (e.g., Hindi) is often required, particularly for roles in areas like Chhattisgarh.
