Job Description:
A Production Manager for a Steel Melting Shop (SMS) oversees daily steelmaking, aiming to meet production targets (quantity, quality, cost) through efficient management of EAF, Induction Furnaces, and CCM, with a strong focus on safety, process optimization, and team leadership. Key responsibilities include reducing tap-to-tap times, optimizing charge mixes (scrap/sponge iron), and ensuring quality standards are met. 
Key Responsibilities
  • Production Planning & Execution: Develops daily/weekly/monthly schedules to ensure timely production of alloy/mild steel products.
  • SMS Operations Control: Supervises furnace and ladle refining furnace (LRF) operations to achieve optimal efficiency, including charge preparation and casting.
  • Quality Management: Ensures chemical composition matches specifications (e.g., Fe500, Alloy Steel) by managing smelting and casting processes.
  • Cost & Process Optimization: Minimizes refractory consumption, energy consumption (kWh/Ton), and optimizes raw material usage for cost efficiency.
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforces strict safety protocols, environmental standards, and statutory regulations on the shop floor.
  • Team Leadership: Manages, trains, and motivates supervisors and workers, coordinating with maintenance to reduce downtime. 
     
Desired Candidate Profile
  • Education: B.Tech/B.E. in Metallurgical Engineering or related field, often with a diploma in metallurgy.
  • Experience: 10+ years in steel manufacturing, specifically with induction furnaces or electric arc furnaces.
  • Skills: Technical proficiency in metallurgy, process optimization (e.g., VDS, EAF), ERP software, and strong problem-solving abilities.
