Job Description:
A JCB/Hydra Operator in a steel company (steel plant, fabrication unit, or raw material yard) is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy machinery to move raw materials, finished steel products, and support maintenance activities. This role requires skilled handling of machinery within often tight and high-activity industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Machine Operation
- Hydra Crane: Safely operate Hydra cranes to lift, move, and position heavy steel materials such as structural beams, plates, and pipes.
- JCB/Loader: Operate JCBs or front-end loaders for digging, loading/unloading raw materials (iron ore, coal, scrap metal), and stockpiling aggregate.
- Material Handling: Transport materials securely within the factory premises, raw material yard, or to external sites.
- Precision Lifting: Operate equipment at the correct angles and speeds to prevent accidents and damage to property.
2. Maintenance and Safety
- Daily Inspection: Perform daily pre-operational checks on the machinery, including inspecting the hydraulic system, cables, brakes, and fluid levels.
- Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to ensure equipment functions properly.
- Reporting: Immediately report any mechanical faults or breakdowns to supervisors or the maintenance team.
- Safety Adherence: Strictly follow all safety norms, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
3. Coordination and Documentation
- Teamwork: Coordinate with production, fabrication, and maintenance teams for loading and material movement.
- Record Keeping: Maintain daily operational logs, including hours worked and maintenance performed.
- Signal Interpretation: Work in coordination with riggers and signalmen to ensure safe maneuvering.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: Generally, 2 to 5 years of experience operating JCBs, Hydra cranes, or heavy loading machinery in steel plants, construction, or mining.
- License: Valid Heavy Vehicle Driving License (HMV) with relevant operator certification for Hydra/JCB.
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of load charts, rigging techniques, and basic troubleshooting of diesel engines and hydraulic systems.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to work in challenging industrial environments
