Job Description:
A Foreman for Operations & Maintenance (O&M) of the Coal Handling Plant (CHP) and Ash Handling Plant (AHP) in a steel company is responsible for supervising the daily operations, mechanical/electrical maintenance, and safety of coal conveyor systems, crushers, and ash disposal systems. They ensure the continuous supply of fuel to the power plant and the efficient disposal of ash.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Operations Oversight: Directing day-to-day operations of CHP/AHP machinery, including coal conveyors, wagon tipplers, crushers, and ash slurry pumps.
- Maintenance Execution: Managing preventive and breakdown maintenance of conveyors, vibrating screens, magnetic separators, hydraulic couplings, and pneumatic ash handling systems.
- Troubleshooting: Expertly resolving equipment failures related to hammer crushers, roller screens, and traveling trippers.
- Safety Compliance: Conducting Tool Box Talks (TBT), enforcing the use of PPE, and ensuring safe working conditions in high-risk areas.
- Resource Management: Supervising workers and subcontractors, managing maintenance spares, and ensuring inventory availability for operations.
- Performance Monitoring: Ensuring high equipment availability and reducing maintenance time during emergency activities.
- Coordination: Working with shift engineers to synchronize CHP/AHP activities with boiler operations.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or ITI (Industrial Training Institute) certificate in Fitter/Electrician trades.
- Experience: 7+ years of experience in O&M within a thermal power plant, sponge iron plant, or integrated steel plant.
- Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of hydraulic/pneumatic systems, conveyor systems, and HT motors.
- Leadership: Ability to lead a crew and manage worker attendance and task delegation.
Physical and Shift Requirements
- Ability to work in shifts (including night shifts).
- Capable of working in a demanding industrial environment (handling dust and heavy machinery).
