Job Description:
A Jr. Manager/Shift Incharge for the Coal Handling Plant (CHP) and Ash Handling Plant (AHP) in a steel company is responsible for supervising the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of raw material handling and waste disposal systems during their shift. This role combines operational control, team management, and maintenance coordination to ensure uninterrupted supply to boilers or DRI kilns.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Management (CHP/AHP)
- Coal Handling: Manage the entire coal handling process, including railway rake unloading, crushing, conveying to bunkers, and stacker-reclaimer operations in the stockyard.
- Ash Handling: Monitor fly ash and bottom ash collection, conveyor systems, slurry pumps, and ash disposal in ponds.
- System Availability: Ensure uninterrupted coal supply to boiler bunkers and efficient ash removal, maintaining 0 demurrage on coal rakes.
- Process Control: Monitor equipment parameters, control dust suppression systems, and manage coal stock management (FIFO method).
2. Shift Supervision & Troubleshooting
- Team Leadership: Lead a shift crew, including operators, fitters, and helpers, ensuring proper manpower utilization.
- Breakdown Management: Troubleshoot breakdowns (belt failures, crusher blockages, ash choking) to minimize downtime.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety norms (e.g., LOTO - Lock Out Tag Out), conduct tool-box talks, and issue Permit to Work (PTW).
3. Maintenance Coordination
- Preventive/Predictive Maintenance: Coordinate with the maintenance department for routine and preventive maintenance of conveyors, crushers, and pumps.
- Shutdown Planning: Assist in planning and executing shutdown activities.
4. Reporting & Documentation
- MIS Preparation: Prepare daily reports on shift operations, coal consumption, and ash generation.
- Inventory Tracking: Maintain records of equipment running hours and spare parts consumption.
Key Requirements (Qualifications & Experience)
- Education: Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience: Generally 6+ years of relevant experience in CHP/AHP operations in a Steel Plant or Thermal Power Plant.
- Skills: Strong technical knowledge of coal handling equipment, firefighting systems, and conveyor systems. Knowledge of SAP-HANA (plant maintenance module) is a plus.
- Location: Typical industrial locations include Raipur, Odisha, and West Bengal.

- Ability to work in shifts and under high-pressure conditions.
- Strict adherence to Pollution Control Requirements and Plant safety standards.
