Job Description:
A Head of Rolling Mill for a steel company (typically a GM or AGM level) leads all hot rolling and finishing operations to meet production targets, ensuring quality, cost efficiency, and safety. Responsibilities include managing mill production planning (SMS/PPC), optimizing machinery (Furnace/Mill Stands), reducing cobbles, and managing team performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Operations Leadership: Direct all rolling mill operations (Blooming Mill, Finishing Shop) for long products, ensuring maximum capacity utilization.
- Production & Planning: Develop daily/monthly production plans, including roll changing schedules and raw material usage to meet customer requirements.
- Quality & Standards: Ensure compliance with IS/BIS/ASTM specifications, managing Surface Quality and Dimensions.
- Safety & Maintenance: Implement high-level safety standards, ensuring minimum downtime through preventive and scheduled maintenance planning.
- Cost Control & Process Optimization: Monitor and reduce operational costs (yield loss, electricity, roll consumption).
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: B.Tech/B.E. in Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering.
- Experience: Generally, 15+ years of experience in long product rolling mills.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, automation, and hot rolling techniques (rolling techniques, guides).
Skills Required
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for process improvement.
- Leadership in managing cross-functional teams, including production engineers and operators.
- Familiarity with Modern Mill Technology (Automation & AI) is highly valued.
