Job Description:
A Production Engineer in a Manufacturing or Shop Management System (SMS) environment is responsible for planning, supervising, and optimizing manufacturing processes to ensure high efficiency, quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness. They act as a vital link between product design, quality control, and the factory floor to ensure products are produced on time.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Production Planning & Execution: Develop and implement production schedules, including setting up manufacturing methods, workflows, and assembly lines.
- Process Optimization & Efficiency: Analyze manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement, reduce waste, and improve productivity using methodologies like Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma.
- Quality Control & Compliance: Establish quality standards, troubleshoot production issues, and ensure compliance with safety regulations, ISO standards, and environmental norms.
- Equipment & Maintenance: Oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of production machinery to minimize downtime.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain production records (e.g., in SAP), prepare technical reports, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose technical issues on the production line and implement corrective/preventative actions (e.g., Poka-Yoke).
- Resource Management: Manage raw materials, labor allocation, and shift operations to meet production targets.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in high-volume manufacturing environments (e.g., automotive, electronics).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (2D/3D), SPC (Statistical Process Control), and MS Office/Excel.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving abilities, excellent communication, and the ability to lead a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Process Knowledge: Familiarity with Six Sigma, Kaizen, and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
