Job Description:
A "FACT Chemist" (often referring to a Formulation, Analytical, Compliance, and Technology Chemist or simply a specialized Manufacturing Chemist) in a personal care products company is responsible for developing, testing, and ensuring the quality of cosmetic products such as lotions, shampoos, and skincare items. They bridge the gap between R&D and mass production, ensuring products are safe, effective, stable, and compliant with regulatory standards.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Formulation & R&D: Developing new product formulations (creams, serums, haircare) from concept to commercialization.
- Reformulation: Enhancing existing products for better performance, cost optimization, or updating ingredients.
- Stability & Testing: Performing stability, compatibility, and safety testing to ensure long-term efficacy and resistance to contamination.
- Manufacturing Support: Translating R&D lab formulations into pilot plant and full-scale commercial production (scaling up).
- Quality Control (QC): Testing raw materials and finished products to ensure they meet specifications before release.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring all formulations adhere to industry safety standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, EU).
- Documentation: Maintaining detailed records of formulas, testing results, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Key Requirements & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, or Pharmacy.
- Experience: 2–5 years of hands-on experience in cosmetic or personal care formulation is typically required.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in laboratory instrumentation (pH meters, viscometers, homogenizers, HPLC).
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with FDA, EU, and GMP requirements.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving skills, creativity in formulation, and strong interpersonal skills for team collaboration.

- Environment: cGMP-certified laboratory and manufacturing plant.
- Physical: Ability to stand or walk for long periods and handle laboratory materials.
