Job Description:
A Driver for Steel Traders is responsible for safely transporting steel products (TMT bars, sheets, coils) from warehouses to customer sites or construction projects. Key duties include loading/unloading cargo, securing heavy loads, navigating routes, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, and completing delivery documents. A valid commercial license is typically required.
Key Responsibilities
- Safe Cargo Handling: Loading and unloading steel materials using forklifts or cranes, ensuring items are secured to prevent damage or safety hazards during transport.
- Delivery and Transport: Operating commercial vehicles (trucks, pickups) to deliver steel products to clients punctually.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections, ensuring the vehicle is fueled, and arranging repairs as necessary.
- Route Planning: Optimizing delivery routes to ensure efficiency and compliance with traffic regulations.
- Documentation: Maintaining accurate mileage logs, trip logs, and handling delivery receipts/invoices.
- Customer Service: Interacting professionally with clients upon delivery.
Requirements
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (e.g., Heavy Motor Vehicle license depending on truck size).
- Proven experience as a driver, preferably in the construction or metal logistics sector.
- Ability to lift heavy items and handle physical work.
- Knowledge of road safety regulations and secure loading procedures.
Typical Working Conditions
- Hours: Regular, often starting early morning (e.g., 9:30 AM – 6:30 PM, Monday–Saturday).
- Environment: Industrial, involving significant driving and interaction with warehouse teams.
